Future of the Bush Tax Cuts

With the tax cuts enacted during the first term of President Bush set to expire soon, no consensus exists on the future of tax rates. Roughly equal percentages of Americans say that all the tax cuts should be kept (30%), all the tax cuts should be repealed (31%) and only the tax cuts for the wealthy should repealed, while others should be retained (27%). A majority of Republicans (52%) favor keeping all the tax cuts, while Democrats divide between total repeal (42%) and repeal of just the taxes for the wealthy (36%). Independents are more divided: a third (32%) favor a total repeal, 27% favor keeping all tax cuts and 27% want to repeal just the tax cuts for the wealthy. Read More
